ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE?

Are you registered to vote? Voting is one of the most important rights and responsibilities U.S. citizens have. About 150 million American citizens are qualified to vote. Nobody can force a citizen to vote. Unfortunately, many don’t. They give up on a chance to choose leaders and representatives who will do things that are important to them. But those who do vote get to tell the government what they want it to do. If citizens think they’re paying too many taxes, they can vote for a person who promises to lower taxes. If citizens want more services, they can vote for someone who will promise to spend funds to gain more services. Carrying out your right to vote is a privilege and a responsibility as a United States citizen! To register to vote you must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be a legal resident of the county
  • Be at least 17 1/2 years of age to register and 18 years of age to vote
  • Not be serving a sentence for conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude
  • Have not been found mentally incompetent by a judge

ID REQUIREMENTS FOR VOTING

Georgia law (O.C.G.A § 21-2-417) requires Georgia residents to show photo identification when voting in person. Proper identification shall consist of any one of the following:

  • Any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a free Voter ID Card issued by the Haralson County Registrar's Office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS)
  • A Georgia Driver's License, even if expired
  • Valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of this State
  • Valid U.S. passport ID
  • Valid U.S. military photo ID
  • Valid tribal photo ID
  • The precinct card you receive to confirm your voter registration and voting location is not a form of identification and is not sufficient identification to vote,

It is your responsibility to notify the board of election office in writing of any changes in address and/or names. You may contact our office directly or you may access the form on line.

What is a Poll Worker and How Do I Become One?

Poll Workers are essential to the Election Day process. These are the individuals a voter encounters at the precinct (polling places) on Election Day. They are there to assist the voter completing Voter Certificates, issuing Ballots, making sure the voter can cast their vote and have it count. Do you want to serve your community and earn some extra money? Are you tech savvy, tenacious, confident, enjoy working in teams and born to multitask, a stay at home parent, have free time, or retired? If you answered yes to any of these, then you just might be the person we are looking for!

When and Where can I vote?

Before every election U.S. citizens registered to vote by the designated deadline have the opportunity to cast their vote prior to the Election date.  Avoid the lines you may encounter on Election Day and vote early! Select your county of residence to view Advance voting location and times.

What is an Absentee Ballot?

There are no requirements for any registered voter to request an Absentee Ballot. However, you must file a separate application for each election for which you are requesting an absentee ballot (see exceptions below for voters over the age of 65, disabled, or military or overseas citizens). Absentee ballots may be requested as much as 78 days before the election and no later than 11 days before the election. If you miss that deadline, you can still vote in person during early voting or on Election Day.  For more information, please visit the How-To-Guide on the Secretary of State's website.

You may access the Absentee Ballot Application online or you may contact the board of elections office to request the application. The Georgia absentee ballot portal will allow you to quickly request an absentee ballot and receive confirmation that your request is being processed. Your secure ballot will be verified and fulfilled by your county elections office.
