Clerk of Superior court

The Clerk of Superior Court is the person responsible for preserving and protecting the integrity of public records and public funds received through the Superior Court. The Clerk receives, manages, and processes all court documents for criminal and civil cases, collects and disburses all court fees, fines, and costs, and provides public access to court records. Real Estate documents; deeds, liens, cancellations, plats, etc., are filed with the Clerk and made available to the public, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am until 5:00 pm. Notary Public Commissions are issued by the Clerk.

District Attorney

Haralson County’s District Attorney is the chief prosecuting officer. He is an elected constitutional officer, who is part of the judicial branch of Georgia State Government. The District Attorney represents the State of Georgia in the trial and appeal of criminal cases in the Superior Court. He is also the legal advisor to the Grand Jury, and performs other duties as prescribed by law.

Juvenile Court

The Juvenile Court hears cases involving children under the age of eighteen (18) who are dependent (neglected or abused) or are alleged to be a Child In Need of Services (CHINS).The Juvenile Court also handles cases of children under the age of seventeen (17) who have been charged with a deliquent offense and children who are sixteen (16) and under who have been charged with a traffic offense. The Juvenile Court also has jurisdiction over emancipation, parental notification of abortion, mental competency and transfers from Superior and Probate Courts.

Magistrate Court

The Magistrate Court handles the filing of claims under $15,000, garnishment,

dispossessories, foreclosures of personal property, abandoned vehicles and county ordinance violations. The Court holds hearings on same, plus handles bond hearings, pre-warrant hearings, preliminary hearings, truancy hearings, and issues warrants and search warrants. You do not need an attorney to file a case in our Court, but you may hire one if you choose. The Court does not appoint attorneys for our cases.

Probate Court

Haralson County Probate Court establishes the validity of wills, documents the administration of estates, appoints a guardian when none has been established, maintains vital records such as birth certificates, marriage licenses, and death certificates, and issues gun permits. The court also disposes of traffic and game and fishing citations.

Public Defender

The Public Defender's Office represents individuals who are being prosecuted in Superior Court of Haralson County who cannot afford an attorney. To apply for a Public Defender, you must complete a financial affidavit in person at the Public Defender's Office. In order to qualify, you must meet the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
