Bond Hearings

Bond Hearings are conducted in person at the Haralson County Jail located at 137 Hayes-Glass Rd., Bremen, Georgia, 30110.

What is a "First Appearance Bond Hearing"?

A first appearance bond hearing is the proceeding that is held within 24-72 hours after the person is arrested. At this hearing, the judge informs somone of the alleged crimes that are being charged with. The Magistrate Judge DOES NOT determine the guilt or innocence of the person charged.

The Magistrate Judge will determine the appropriate amount to set the bond for the charged person. Depending on the alleged crimes, there may also be conditions attached to the person's bond. If the Magistrate Judge is not authorized to set bail or declines to set bail, the defendant will be notified. The defendant will also be notified as to their right to legal representation and how to apply for representation if they are unable to hire a private attorney.

First Appearance Hearing is Not a Hearing on the Merits of the Case.
The first appearance hearing is not a preliminary hearing or tril on the merits of the charges. The judge will not consider dismissal of any of the charges at this hearing. The defendant will not be asked any questions about the facts of the case.
